		Some technical notes

The Canadian Nautical Research Society initiated its web presence in February 2006 – with the technical credit going to the late Bill Schleihauf. In 2010, the Executive Council decided that an update would be beneficial. This site, launched March 2011, is the result.
A number of factors were taken into account:

			- Bilingualism: the site is bilingual where possible. However, published documents from The Northern Mariner and Argonauta, as well as some news releases, appear only in their original language.

			- Technical standards: the site has been designed to HTML 4 standards, leaving open the possibility of incorporating XTML as required, using CSS (Cascading Style Sheets.) Scripts use Perl, Javascript and PHP as needed.

			- Minumum requirements: we recomend a recent, javascript-enabled browser and a minimum screen resolution of 1024 by 768 pixels (nothing will be lost except visual esthetics at lower resolution.) A viewer for .pdf files is required.

			- Continuity: every effort has been made to ensure continuity from the "old" site, including Google search references. However, this site should now be bookmarked as http://www.cnrs-scrn.org – you may add /index.html rather than index.htm but this should not prove necessary.
