Huge collections numbering in the milliions of items are located in major depositories across Canada. The National, Provincial and University archives are well known and most important, easy to access with online catalogues.

There is another layer of equally important maritime history collections maintained by municipalities, museums and historical societies -- for whom sophisticated catalogues and finding aids amy not exist. To make them more accessible, and to give them much needed exposure, the CNRS is providing this online Directory of Canadian Archival Sources. We would appreciate hearing about those collections that you know of: just send an e-mail to the Argonauta editors , including the relevant details. Formal rules of description are appreciated by not required.
